Taking The Leap

Conquering my nerves about publishing writing — it all gets easier from here!

“Listen to what the world is telling you to do, and take the leap,” Lily Adrin explained to Ted Mosby in the How I Met Your Mother episode “The Leap” when Ted was facing a difficult decision with his professional life.

I like to think I’m doing something similar — taking a leap by actually publishing my thoughts and writing. It may not seem like a big deal to most, but to me it is, so I find myself nervous to take this leap. But, similar to Ted, my heart and the world (friends/family and other poetic signs/thoughts) are encouraging me to make progress on one of my greatest goals/passions — writing. So, here we are!

If I ever want to write, I need to start somewhere. Why not here and now? Taking that one leap forward will produce more progress, making each step seem just like that — a step, not a leap. This is especially important to get better at a certain skill. Aristotle once said, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” To get better at writing, I must write more.

This brings me to what a lot of my writing will entail — deriving philosophy and values from television shows/movies and music with hints from the ancient world (since I’m a Classics major) and how those apply to life (such as this writing leap to Ted Mosby’s leap in HIMYM). I believe this is very underappreciated and it’s good to evaluate how we can learn/grow from these stories. I won’t only write about TV though! There’ll be random philosophy/wisdom/thoughts, stories, interesting quotes, and anything else that I come upon. Meaning, I’m not limited and will write for the sake of loving it.

So, I hope you could enjoy these thoughts and are willing to join me on my writing journey. It will be a great ride. Let’s take the leap!
